Join London Drawing tutor and Artist Jonathan Farr for an exploration into the landscape of portrait via the iconic drawings of Van Gogh and Frank Auerbach – 

Both Van Gogh and Frank Auerbach are a mine of information with regard to mark making and use of drawing to explore surface and texture – and via their work we will take a deep dive into materials and processes to bring powerful expression to your portrait – and your drawing in general- portrait, landscape and life.

Jonathan is a professional landscape artist based in Mexico and has sketched across the globe, as well as the UK. His expansive work is massively expressive, dynamic and exciting, capturing the excitement of urban sketching. He is a a really inspiring and engaging tutor- with so much to offer with regard to technique and approach so you can build foundations of your own style.

Jonathan will be bringing his expansive landscape techniques into the realm of portrait – using a combination of charcoal, compressed charcoal, graphite and ink to create layers of expressive markmaking. we will be working from a mixture of photographs and live portrait models to explore the power of expressive drawing.
