Portrait Painting Process –
Unlock the secrets of painting alla prima with oils as you paint along in real time with the award winning Kim Scouller
We will be working from prepared photographs of a different model each week – with the focus being on Kim demonstrating for you to observe and work alongside.

Join Kim for a brand new four week course of live portrait painting in oils, working alla prima from a different model each week.

Working with still images and at a relaxed but purposeful pace, each two-hour session will explore a different aspect of the portrait process; from selecting colours and establishing the structure of the head, through blocking in shapes and tones, to refining and bringing the painting together.

Kim will paint live throughout each session, demonstrating the process from beginning to end and talking through the decisions she makes along the way. You‘ll work alongside her, with opportunities for feedback, questions and guidance as your own paintings develop.

The alla prima approach encourages us to work quickly and decisively, responding to the paint and allowing for a freer, more direct way of working.

The course is suitable for beginners and anyone wanting to gain a better understanding of the complete portrait painting process.

Kim will be working in oils, but you are welcome to use whatever paint you prefer. A materials list will be provided upon enrolment.
