Have you ever found yourself struggling with eyes that just won’t cooperate, noses that seem a bit off, or mouths that feel flat and expressionless? If drawing facial features feels like a puzzle you can’t quite solve, this course is for you!

Join Susannah Pal, a London Drawing tutor, for a four-week masterclass focused on capturing the intricate details of facial features using only graphite.

In this focused course, you will learn Susannah’s detailed approach to drawing facial features, enabling you to bring portraits to life with precision and depth.

Recordings will be made available after each session and you have 30 days access to rewatch, rewind, pause and repeat.

What You’ll Learn:

• Create a solid foundation with tonal graphite drawings.
• Master shading techniques to depict skin, blemishes, and wrinkles.
• Capture realistic facial expressions and intricate details with graphite alone.
• Learn how to shape and draw different eyes and mouths based on each model’s unique facial features, emphasizing the natural variation in human faces.
• This course is exclusively focused on facial features, diving deep into the fine details of eyes, noses, and mouths. While we’ve successfully run courses on drawing the whole portrait many times, this is the first time we’re focusing specifically on facial features. A future course will revisit the full portrait for those who want to continue their practice.

With live demonstrations and continuous guidance from Susannah, plus access to recordings for one month, you’ll never miss a moment.
You’ll be working from a range of model photos, which will be provided in advance to print or view on-screen.

Mastering Facial Features with Graphite:

Essential Materials:

• Smooth Hot Pressed Watercolour Paper.
• A good eraser (Faber Castell Dust-Free recommended).
• A couple of soft graphite pencils (3B – 7B).
• Tissue.
• Tracing paper.
• A decent pencil sharpener.
• A teaspoon.
