The V&A

This a brand new workshop for us in collaboration with the brilliant John Close- taking you into galleries and in front of some of the most fantastic art London has to offer!

Museum Sketch: Gallery Talks & Drawing
Body & Space at the V&A Cast Courts
Saturday 5 October
£25 All basic materials included

If you have booked a ticket- we will be meeting at the main reception cloakroom at 1.20pm for a 1.30pm start- if you are late just come and find us in the cast courts.

Join artist and art history fan John Close for an afternoon of insights and drawing in the fabulous Cast Courts at the V&A.

Opened in 1873, the Cast Courts display copies of some of the world’s most significant works of art reproduced in plaster, electrotype, photography, and digital media. The cast collection is famous for including reproductions of Michelangelo’s David, Trajan’s Column, and Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise, amongst many others.

Working from sculpture creates exciting and ingenious variations, and we will explore pencil and graphite techniques to deal with challenges such as descriptions of space and light, scale, form and composition. Often, gallery sketchers focus on one sculpture- in this session we will discuss a technical approach to structure an entire scene. Join us for an Adventure in Drawing!!

More about Museum Sketch
Museum Sketch is a new series of tutor led gallery visits. We will host a talk about the subjects and histories of the featured artists with a theme which links the work together and then direct a session of drawing, allowing you to work directly from the displays. The session is tutor led and designed to provide in depth information and exciting drawing opportunities.
