An amazing chance to work in a fully equipped professional print studio in an exclusive workshop with artist and printmaker Sisetta Zappone!
Join Sisetta for a day of printmaking workshop in a for all levels using a mix of materials and water-based inks.
This one day master course will give you the unique opportunity to learn in one of the best known print studios in London and a real artists hub- Artichoke Studios in Brixton, South London. Artichoke Print Workshop, founded in 1992, continues to be a vital resource for artists working in print in London. Situated in the heart of Brixton, the studio hosts a number of highly sought after professional printers, including Paul Catherall, Sophie Layton, Morgan Doyle and Marcelle Hanselaar. It also works alongside artists such as Duncan Wylie Kate Boxer Tom Phillips R.A. on editioning projects.
Places are limited to just four participants to allow for social distancing and full use of equipment so you will receive lots of one to one tuition and advice.
We will focus on learning the techniques of etching, employed by masters as Goya, Blake and Piranesi to create beautiful images.
You will make a design on a waxed metal plate and then immerse it in the acid bath. You will then also ink and print your image using an original old fashioned etching press.
The course does not require any previous experience or existing drawing skills- and is designed to give you an insight into printing practice allowing time and space to experiment and gain confidence on this new skill.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
• Acknowledge and master the technique of Acid etching.
• Recognize and memorize the main tools and materials used in the process.
• Be independent producing your own templates and prints, learning all the steps of the processes.
• Be able to use an etching press and create your printing proofs in a variety of methods
Materials and what you will need:
All materials and resources are included in the course fee.
We recommended you bring your notebook/sketchbook and pen/pencils with you. You will be provided all you need in the classroom, but if you have previous experience in printmaking and know your favourite materials feel welcome to bring those along (inks/paper/ old metal plates you have made), and also with some samples of your former work.
