Alternative Selfies: Creative Portrait workshop with the Royal College Of Physicians

November 10 @ 6:30 pm 7:30 pm

Join us for a special Self Portrait workshop with our friends at the Royal College of Physicians. The workshop will be inspired by the RCP’s portraits, prints and objects featured in current exhibition RCP Unseen.

Take a virtual trip around the RCP Unseen exhibition
The session will be led by London Drawing tutors Susannah Pal and Cat Sammon, with demonstrations and simple guided drawing activities including explorative drawing techniques and collage – all designed to unlock your creativity whatever your skill level.

As the exercises unfold we will explore how physicians have been illustrated in the past: how they wanted people to see them, how others sometimes saw them and the objects that were important to them. We will take a sneak peek at some of these objects, the stories behind them and their significance to those who have donated them to our Museum. We will then use some of the visual language explored in the RCP Unseen exhibition to create our own ‘alternative selfie portraits’.

To enjoy the session at home it will help to have at hand a few materials including:
  • Paper / envelopes / paper from the recycling
  • Pencils
  • Any pens / felt tips / highlighters
  • Scissors
  • Pritt stick or glue if you have it, but this is not essential
  • If you would like to, please bring an object or wear a piece of clothing that is important to you to include in your portrait.
Pre-booking is essential and places are limited.
